What We Do

John throwing a large bowl

We work mainly with a stoneware clay supplied by Valentines of Stoke on Trent, United Kingdom and most of our work is either produced using Raku methods or by Smoke Firing although we do from time to time produce domestic stoneware, usually specially commissioned, and we are currently experimenting with crystaline glazes.
I (John) prefer throwing as a making method whereas Ann (my wife) tends more towards handbuilding particularly her 'Cave Bowl' series one of which is shown below.

The glazes we use are of our own making and we fire them in a top loading electric kiln supplied by Kilns and Furnaces Ltd, again of Stoke on Trent, except for the Raku glazed ware which is fired in our home made, gas fired, top-hat kiln.
